In a statement issued on Tuesday 12th February, Mark MacKenna spokesperson for IFOP said:

“Irish Friends of Palestine are appalled at the decision of InvestNI and the Department for Employment & Learning to invest £1.7m in the discredited Caterpillar Company who are a major supplier of heavy machinery used in the destruction of Palestinian homes and farms in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem. It was a Caterpillar D9R armored bulldozer that Israeli soldiers used to murder International activist, Rachel Corrie, during a peaceful protest against the destruction of Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip.”

“In the United States the pension fund giant TIAA-CREF which is the leading retirement provider for workers in the academic, research, medical, and cultural fields dropped more than $72 million in Caterpillar shares from its Social Choices Fund in support of the Palestinian Civil Society’s Boycott, Divest and Sanctions Campaign. Irish Friends of Palestine find it shameful that in the North of Ireland, Tax Payer money is being used to invest in a company with a shocking record of profiting from Israeli Human Rights Violations of Palestinians and International Law Violations”.
